ZeniMax vs. Indie Entwickler: Der Kampf um den Titel Prey

Vor gut einem Jahr startete das Indie Entwickler Studio No Matter Studios ihr Kickstarter Projekt zum kommenden Action-Adventure Survival Titel mit dem Namen Prey for the Gods. Das Spiel ist mit unter eines der aktuell interessantesten Kickstarter Projekte und erinnert stark an Shadow of the Colossus.

ZeniMax Media die Muttergesellschaft von Bethesda, welche die Lizenz für ihren neuesten Titel Prey bereits 2009 bezogen hat, macht jetzt Druck auf ihre Spieleschmiede Arkane Studios, die wiederum das Indie Studio dazu bringen sollen bei ihren Projekt Prey durch ein „a“ zu ersetzen. Wieder einmal ein gutes Beispiel mit welchen abstrusen Problemen ein Indie Studio heutzutage zu kämpfen hat.

„We didn’t want to do this but we had to change our game name from Prey for the Gods to Praey for the Gods,“ so das Studio in ihren aktuellen Newsletter.

„Honestly, we could make this entire newsletter about our thoughts on this. Trademark law is what we were dealing with and we aren’t under any NDA so we can state the opposition in this situation, Bethesda/Zenimax.“

„While we disagree with their opposition we were able to come to an agreement,“ so weiterführend im Post der Entwickler. „This is really something no starting company should have to deal with let alone a tiny team of 3. So the fact that we came out the other end intact still developing the game was a win. One that will no doubt shape our company moving forward.“

No Matter Studios bestätigt, dass Praey for the Gods Ende des Jahres für PC und Konsolen erscheinen wird. Prey von Bethesda erscheint bereits diese Woche am 5.5.2017. Unsere Previews dazu findet ihr bereits hier.
